Meet the Composer

Wally Shoup (alto sax) and Dave Abramson (drums)will perform a series of duos exploring the dynamicduo language of sax and drums which has evolved duringthe past 40 years.  Using specific compositional strategies, theyexplore both parallel languages (melody/rhythm) andsimultaneous languages (over-lapping areas of similar sound) while maintaining momentum/swing and a greatsense of cohesion. In the afternoon previous to the performance (July 18), Wally Shoup and Dave Abramson will appear on KMUN--community radio--to explain the evening's performance, and his compositional project(s). There will will be pre- and post- performance conversations and on Saturday morning (July 19), an informal gathering of any interested public with the composers/musicians further defining and discussing their work.
