Guest Artist Eric Huebner performed a series of contemporary solo piano works that dove into issues that arise when varying cultural influences and sources meet in music, focusing primarily on Asian and Western musical practices and aesthetics. One of the highlights of this concert was Christopher Adler’s Bear Woman Dances, a three-movement virtuosic work that draws upon Korean music as one of its sources, highly inflected by Adler s unique musical sensibilities. As Guest Composer, Christopher Adler has been invited to share his thoughts on the nature of composing across cultures as it revolves around issues of hybridity and identity in music. Free and open to the Public, Eric Huebner gave a preview of Christopher Adler’s Bear Woman Dances, and allowed the public to provide direct responses (questions and comments) that were addressed to either or both artists. Another event held was a Composition Workshop which was free and open to the public. Mr. Huebner performed works by student composers written specifically for this workshop. Dr. Adler then provided crucial feedback regarding their music.
