
On Friday, August 7 at 8:00pm at Santa Cruz Civic Auditorium the Cabrillo Festival Orchestra conducted by Marin Alsop performed Osvaldo Golijovs "Azul" for cello and orchestra. On Saturday, August 8 at 8:00pm and Sunday August 9 at 1:00pm at Santa Cruz Civic Auditorium the Cabrillo Festival Orchestra conducted by Marin Alsop performed Avner Dormans "Spices, Perfumes, Toxins!," a concerto for percussion duo and large orchestra with soloists Galen Lemmon & Steve Hearn, percussion (Audience: 800/August 8; 1,000/August 9). On Sunday, August 9 at 8:00pm at Santa Cruz Civic Auditorium the Cabrillo Festival Orchestra conducted by Marin Alsop performed Lee Johnsons "Dead Symphony No.6" (2008). On Sunday, August 16 at 4:00 & 8:00 at the Mission in San Juan Bautista the Cabrillo Festival Orchestra conducted by Marin Alsop performed Ingram Marshalls "Kingdom Come" (1996) and the west coast premiere of Kevin Puts "Two Mountain Scenes". Osvaldo Golijov, Avner Dorman and Lee Johnson participated in rehearsals which were open to the public, introduced their works at the performance, and take part in a free pre-concert talk August 7. Avner Dorman also served as our composer faculty for our "Conductors/Composers Workshop" August 15, which included a final rehearsal session with full orchestra open to the public on August 4 and culminating with "In the Works," a public performance of works written by Workshop composers, on August 5. Ingram Marshall and Kevin Puts participated in rehearsals which were open to the public August 1113, and were prepared to introduce their works at the performance, and participated in radio and press interviews before and during their residencies at Cabrillo.
