The Brooklyn Philharmonic announces an opportunity for composers who work outside the orchestral medium to bring their ideas to the orchestra realm. Composers from classical and non-classical backgrounds (including world music, hip hop, electronica, salsa/meringue, etc…) are welcome. The Composer Mentorship program is designed to bring forward composers whose work reflects the diverse energy, power, and pulse of the orchestra’s home borough. Residency in Brooklyn is not a requirement, but Brooklyn composers are encouraged to apply.
Two composers will be selected to participate in 2007. The mentorship will include:
• meetings with Brooklyn Philharmonic Music Director Michael Christie
• ten one-on-one sessions with composer Randall Woolf
• a reading session with the Brooklyn Philharmonic
• performance of a chamber work on the Music off the Walls series
• $2500 stipend
To apply please complete the below application: Send your responses, via email, to: cdargel@meetthecomposer.org by 5PM EST, Wednesday December 13th, 2006
