Woolsey Hall, New Haven, CT
December 12th, 1808 saw an extraordinary concert in Vienna in which Beethoven's 5th and 6th Symphonies were premiered. The NHSO will reenact the 1812 premiere and add a touch of contemporary spice by including Jin Hi Kim's 2007 commission for the NHSO. This concert introduces Jin Hi Kim’s colorful Monk Dances providing a point of reflection between Beethoven’s Fifth and Sixth symphonies—originally premiered on the same program.
There will be a pre-concert lecture at 6:30 pm in Beinecke Hall as well. Join Tilden Russell, Professor Emeritus of Music at SCSU for a preconcert discussion of Beethoven's 5th and 6th Symphonies and Jin Hi Kim's Monk Dances. Cookies and Tea to follow- and don't forget to join the Symphony at 7:30pm for a performance of the aforementioned works!
