ROUND VI Short Term Residencies: Michael Schelle

Spring 2006: Celebrating the 50th Anniversary of Albuquerque Youth Symphony Program (AYS), composer Michael Schelle wrote five original compositions for each of the orchestras of the AYS Program and visited Albuquerque throughout the year to work with the orchestras.

The AYS Program consists of five orchestras: the Albuquerque Junior String Orchestra (AJSO) for grades 3 - 5, two 90-100 piece middle school orchestras, the Albuquerque Junior Orchestra (AJO) and Albuquerque Junior Symphony (AJS)
for grades 6 - 8, and two full senior orchestras,
the Albuquerque Youth Orchestra (AYO) and the
Albuquerque Youth Symphony (AYS) for grades 9 - 12.

The five orchestras of the AYS Program gave their world premieres of the commissioned compositions at the annual Gala Concert at Popejoy Hall on the University of New Mexico campus in late April, 2006.
