Music Alive Round VI Short Term Residencies:
(2005-2006)
Jennifer Higdon (6 weeks) Website
Pittsburgh Symphony

Ms. Higdon has been commissioned to write
Trombone Concerto for the orchestra
which will premiere December 2005. The PSO will also perform several other
works by Ms. Higdon throughout the season.
During her residency, she will
teach master classes at the University of Pittsburgh, Carnegie Mellon University
and Duquesne University music schools. She will also mentor composition students
at Pittsburgh High School for the Creative and Performing Arts, and
establish a reading session for young composers with a national call for
scores hosted by the PSO.
Joan Tower (2 weeks)

Ms. Tower's residency will take place during the orchestras 2005 Deer Valley
Music Festival. The orchestra will perform a work by Tower and the
Muir Quartet will also perform a piece as part of the Festival's Chamber
Series.
Ms. Tower will also participate in reading sessions and open rehearsals
with the orchestra, and take part in other residency activities
involving the general public, local composers, and the orchestra's musicians,
staff and Board of Directors.
David Dzubay (3 weeks) Website
Green Bay Symphony

Both the Green Bay Symphony and Green Bay Youth Symphony will
perform works by the composer. During the residency Mr. Dzubay will
also work with local elementary school music classes, high school
orchestra and band programs, as well as music and composition students
at several local colleges.
Gabriela Lena Frank (2 weeks)
Seattle Symphony

Ms. Frank has been commissioned to write a new work for the orchestra,
and will work closely with Seattle's Latino community throughout her
residency.
She will also work with public school bands, orchestras,
choral groups, and with music and composition
students at the University of Washington and Cornish College of the Arts.

West Shore Symphony

The residency will expand the orchestra's commitment to new music by including
the US premiere of a joint commission by Mr. Daugherty, the performance of a second
work by the orchestra, and the inauguration of a chamber music series featuring
the composer's chamber works.
During the course of his residency, Mr. Daugherty will
also work with the West Shore Youth Symphony, with the music departments of
Grand Valley State University and Muskegon Community College,
and with local high school music students.

Albuquerque Youth Symphony

The residency will offer Mr. Schelle the opportunity to work directly
with the five ensembles that make up the AYS program as he creates
a newly commissioned work for each ensemble.
