The Saint Paul Chamber Orchestra is embarking on a three-year residency project focused on two major areas of activity. First will be a series three commissioned Concerti for Chamber Orchestra by three major American composer, Fred Lerdahl, Lee Hyla and Chen Yi, which will be performed on SPCO main subscription series in the spring of each of the next three seasons, and will be "curated" during the fall of each season in a reading session in advance of its preparation for public performance, discussed and examined publicly in a "Music U" sessions led by the composers. Second, there will be an annual composition competition and seminar for emerging composers (age 40 and under) during January of each season, with the jury for each annual competition led by the commissioned composers.
