Program Will Pair Seven Composers with Six American Orchestras

Meet The Composer and the League of American Orchestras announce awards to seven composers and six orchestras who will participate in the 2009-10 Music Alive program. Now in its tenth year, Music Alive encourages the commissioning and performance of music by living composers and engagement with composers by funding composer-in-residence programs. The six residencies beginning in the 2009-2010 season are:

• George Tsontakis with the Albany Symphony Orchestra (2 seasons) more
• Lowell Liebermann with the Evansville Philharmonic Orchestra (1 season) more
• Randall Woolf with Fulcrum Point New Music Project (1 season) more
• Jin Hi Kim and Augusta Read Thomas with the New Haven Symphony Orchestra (2 seasons) more
• Michael Daugherty with the Pacific Symphony Orchestra (1 season) more
• Robert Paterson with the Vermont Youth Orchestra Association (3 seasons) more

Meet The Composer and the League of American Orchestras provide financial support to Music Alive residencies and offer technical assistance and professional development services. The residencies range from three weeks to three years. Orchestral organizations and composers who wish to work together submit applications jointly. An independent and distinguished panel of composers, musicians, and orchestra officials makes the final selection of participants
