Michael Daugherty
Organization:
Pacific Symphony
Highlights of Michael Daugherty's residency with the Pacific Symphony include:
- Pacific Symphony Youth Ensemble American Composer's Competition: this competition will be administered in partnership with the American Composer's Forum (ACF) and aims to identify exceptional new talent and voices among younger, emerging Symphonic Wind Ensemble composers. Audiences and musicians alike will vote for their favorite work during a performance by the Wind Ensemble in March 2010. The three finalists will receive one performance of their work, with compositional feedback and career counseling provided by Mr. Daugherty
- Three performances of a world premiere composition by the Pacific
Symphony, under the baton of Music Director Carl St.Clair. In addition, both the Pacific Symphony Youth Orchestra and Wind Ensemble will perform works of Mr. Daugherty at their culminating concert in May 2010
- Daugherty will provide lectures and make social appearances for several key constituency groups
- Participation by Daugherty in concert previews with radio personality Alan Chapman; recording and posting of a 20-minute "Meet the Composer" podcast introducing Daugherty and his commissioned work; and a Composer's Comer in which the community will be updated on the progress of Mr. Daugherty's composition. The Symphony has also planned school partnerships featuring "Meet the Composer" guest lectures for composition students at partner institutions.
