Meet the Composer

Meet The Composer extends its congratulations to Steve Reich for receiving this year's Pulitzer Prize in composition. The work Double Sextet premiered in March 2008 and was cited by the jury as "a major work that displays an ability to channel an initial burst of energy into a large-scale musical event, built with masterful control and consistently intriguing to the ear."

Nominated as finalists for the prize were Don Byron's 7 Etudes for Piano Solo (commissioned by Meet The Composer through the Soloist Champions project) and Harold Meltzer's Brion.

MTC is honored to have all three of these distinguished composers serving on the Artists Council.
