Pierre Jalbert plans to write a mixed quintet for the core instrumentalists of the Music from Copland House ensemble: flute, clarinet, violin, cello, and piano. The idea for the piece is to incorporate musical elements of outside cultures that have shaped and blended into our society in the United States. The particular interest is the emigration of French-speaking peoples from France (starting in the 17th century) to Canada and ultimately the United States. The folk elements in the proposed piece would be based on music from Quebec and/or Acadiana. Ultimately, the piece will be inspired by the idea of “wandering” peoples.
