Meet the Composer

Julia Wolfe

Julia Wolfe will compose a 35-40 minute, folk-inspired, narrative-based ballad for ETHEL and a folk singer comprised of an unusual high energy collection of songs. The music will draw inspiration from Appalachian and Celtic folk music. In this collaboration, composer, singer, and quartet will work to achieve a new kind of expressiveness that moves beyond each of the genres explored.
