Peter Jones will be performing original compositions for Hope Stone Dance Company including a solo dance piece performed by Lindsay McGill and several ensemble pieces featuring the entire company of 10 dancers for the Texas Weekend of Contemporary Dance at Miller Outdoor Theater in Houston Texas on September 25th and 26th of 2009. The Texas Weekend of Contemporary Dance showcases professional contemporary companies from all over Texas and is free of charge for the Houston audiences. Texas Weekend of Contemporary Dance draws a diverse audience which includes people of all ages, gender, race and economic status.
Peter will also perform live for the premiere of Village of Waltz, a full evening of dance, choreographed by Jane Weiner and performed by Hope Stone Dance Company. This world premiere takes place on October 23rd and 24th of 2009 at the Cullen Theater at the Wortham Center in Houston Texas. For these performances Peter will be joined by musician Terrence Karn who will play drums and other instruments which are part of Peter's score. In addition to these live performances, recorded versions of Peter's original compositions will be used for Hope Stone Dance Company performances in September 2009 at Blinn College in Brenham Texas and in Abilene Texas for the OUR HOUSE benefit for runaway youth on October 8th, 2009.
Peter's visit in September will include a talk at the High School for Performing Arts for both the dance and music students. During this lecture-demonstration, Peter and collaborator/choreographer Jane Weiner will discuss the early inroads and pathways for successful dancer/musician collaborations in an hour long discussion entitled "The Beginners' Guide to Capming…and Music and Dance Collaboration". This same lecture-demonstration will be presented to several local colleges including the Univ. of Houston, Rice Univ. Dance Theater and the Moore School of Music at Rice Univ. during Peter's Sept. and Oct. visits.
The company and Peter will also present an afternoon lecture-demonstration at the Jewish Community Center entitled "In the Wings." This lecture-demonstration is open to the public and directed towards children in hopes of giving them some insight into the creation of performing art and helping them to better understand the theater, the music, the dance and what goes into creating a music composition. Peter and Jane will answer questions regarding the process of working together and the kids will have the opportunity to come up on stage and discover the theater three dimensionally. "In the Wings" is slated for the last weekend in September 2009. All of these activities will focus primarily on Peter's process, his music and the process of collaborating with a choreographer.
