The Afro-American Chamber Music Soecity will introduce the Los Angeles community, music aficionados, educators and musicians to film composer, Stephen James Taylor on Wednesday, January 20, 2010 at 7pm at the William Grant Still Center. The Center's host, Joyce Maddox, will provide a reception following the lecture and chamber concert. On Friday, January 22, 2010 at 2pm, the Taylor will conduct a Master Class at the Wilshire United Methodist Church. Students from the Colburn School of Music will participate in the two hour master class which will be coordinated by Professor Robert Lipsett. The compositional media technologies to be shared with the audience of emerging composers include the MAX and Manta instruments which will be explored by student composers. This activity will introduce the public to new modern compositional techniques. The Orchestra Concert, Sunday, January 25, 2009 at 2pm will include a Lecture of Introduction prior to the performance of each work culminating with a reception and greeting hour. During the premiere performance of Taylor's All Things to All People, the audience will see on screen the visual materials that trigger new electronic musical events and integrate into the sonic fabric of the orchestra. This work will use the 810-key Microzone with microtonal tunings and ancient African music while utilizing contemporary classical harmonies and forms.
