The Inventions Trio, led by composer Bill Mays, will present an afternoon concert on April 11 of Mays' works, featuring his original compositions and his arranged adaptations of classical works and jazz standards. There will be two 45-minute sets with a brief intermission. The performance will be followed by a public reception, so that all might meet the composer and his musical colleagues.
At 2:00 p.m. on the day of the concert, Mr. Mays will hold a piano master class and a brief open rehearsal. He will speak of rehearsal and performance techniques, and of the collaborative possibilities of chamber music. On April 12, the day following the Inventions Trio concert, Mr. Mays will lead an afternoon workshop for local composers, musical arrangers, college and high school students, and all members of the interested public. He will provide insights into the composition process, demonstrating his work at the piano. Much of this workshop event will take place in an informal question and answer format, allowing maximum exposure.
