The Fremont Symphony Orchestra will perform Henry Mollicone’s work Final Light at the Opening Night Concert of its 2010-11 season. Final Light is the third section of Mollicone’s larger work Inner Light. Inner Light is a triptych for string orchestra and tubular chimes composed for the Eastman School Orchestra. The music is inspired by a single positive image—spiritual light. Final Light is about the passage of the soul from this world to a higher realm. It depicts facing mortality through a series of moods: fear, denial, rage, despair, submission, and ultimately the approaching peace—a hint of the final light humanity hopes to enter into.
The program also includes Beethoven's Symphony No. 3 "Eroica" and Tchaikovsky’s Violin Concerto with Young Artist Competition winner Stephen Kim.
