Meet the Composer

Through a generous grant from the New York State Music Fund, ARTSwego has commissioned composer Richard Einhorn to create The Origin, a multi-media oratorio based on the writings of Charles Darwin. In March, the work will be premiered on teh campus of SUNY Oswego, with performers to include the Eastern European Women's Ensemble Kitka, and soprano Jacqueline Horner. The work will also integrate original media elements created for the piece by filmmaker Bill Morrison. Through a special media partnership, WCNY Public Television will produce a half-hour documentary on the creation of the work for broadcast in conjunction with the premiere. As we approach both the bicentennial of Darwin's birth and the sesquicentennial of The Origin of the Species' first publication, this new music will gain immediate attention and apotential audience far beyond its initial performances.
