· Commissioning Music/USA supports commissioning of new works by performing and presenting organizations across the country. This support takes the form of subsidized commissioning fees as well as technical assistance in managing the entire life-cycle of a commissioning project.
· MetLife Creative Connections is designed to build audiences for new music by having composers actively participate in events featuring the performance of their music. Participation must include some form of audience interaction.
· Ford Made in America, one of our two partnership programs with the American Symphony Orchestra League, uses the power of a large consortium to enable smaller budget orchestras to participate in a major commissioning project. In the first round, sixty-five small budget orchestras—at least one from each state in the US—have come together to commission Joan Tower to write a new work entitled Made in America , which over the next two seasons will be performed in turn by each member of the consortium.
· Global Connections subsidizes appearance fees and international travel costs for American composers traveling abroad or foreign composers traveling to America. Support is also available for Research and Development projects involving American composers collaborating with foreign artists.
· JPMorganChase Regrant Program for Small Ensembles awards general operating support to small New York City-based ensembles and music organizations with a commitment to performing work of living composers and contemporary music.
· Music Alive is a collaboration with the American Symphony Orchestra League which enables American orchestras of all sizes to have a composer-in-residence for periods of two to eight weeks over the course of one to three seasons to coincide with performances of their works and other activities.
· The New Music, New Donors initiative seeks to build relationships between individuals, composers, and performers and to develop new models of individual patronage and philanthropy for the twenty-first century.
· The Van Lier Fellowship provides career assistance and financial support for New York City-based African-American and Hispanic composers in the early stages of their careers. The Fellowships facilitate the creation of new work, research and development, studio time, travel, and professional development; and additional support is provided for recipient composers to engage in educational outreach activities in their local communities.
