COMPOSE YOURSELF

Meet The Composer, in partnership with Young Audiences, Inc. has developed Compose Yourself, a program integrating composers into the development and implementation of music in the K-12 curriculum. Compose Yourself fuses four key elements: 1) direct instruction; 2) student performance; 3) curriculum development; and 4) professional development. The program's goals are to have students work directly with composers in an intensive, multi-session compositional residency experience. Students, teachers, administrators, and parents will engage in the program through performance and demonstration; focusing on compositions created by students. With a goal of national implementation in the coming years, Compose Yourself begins as a pilot program for grades K-6 in three New York City schools and two Philadelphia schools, partnering MTC and Young Audiences, Inc. with Young Audiences New York and Young Audiences of Eastern Pennsylvania. Compose Yourself continues Meet The Composer's commitment to education that began in 1988 with MTC's New Music for Schools program.
